Today, the students of our school, accompanied by their teachers, had the opportunity to watch and actively participate in the ancient custom of “Kalogeros” in Meliki, singing and dancing along with the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The “Kalogeros” custom is an important Thracian tradition with roots deep in antiquity, which is revived every year on Cheese Monday (the Monday before Clean Monday) by the descendants of refugees from Kost\u00ed in Eastern Thrace. It is a fertility ritual symbolizing the rebirth of nature and the prosperity of the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The central figure is the “Kalogeros,” dressed in animal skins and bells, who, together with a group of disguised participants, moves through the village reenacting scenes of agricultural life, such as ploughing and sowing. The climax of the event takes place in the village square, where the symbolic death and resurrection of the Kalogeros represent the arrival of spring and the hope for a good harvest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The participation of our students in such activities helps preserve our cultural heritage and transforms this tradition into a living experience and memory for the younger generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
